About Me
Hi, my name is Kara. And as a therapist, I bring my whole self to you in an open, non-judgmental, and compassionate way.

I became a counsellor later in life. Even though I have always been fascinated by people, behaviour, and how our minds work, when I graduated high school, I knew I wasn’t ready to support people in the way they needed. Instead, I spent 15 years in the business world, grew, failed, succeeded, loved, grieved, learnt, and learnt some more, and during this time, became a wife and mother. It was then I knew I was ready to transition into the world of counselling and psychotherapy. While our sessions together are all about you, I believe my lived experiences amplify my ability to understand and empathise with your experience.

My Approach
My goal is to create a safe therapeutic space where you can learn about yourself and why you feel the way you do, break lifelong painful patterns, and bring forward your innate self-wisdom for healing. To achieve this, I incorporate a range of interventions including psychosocial education, which involved learning about how our brain/body works, why it behaves like it does, and easy to implement actions to help. On top of these helpful, hands-on interventions, I use other modalities such as Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) to access deep seated pain and emotional wounds and heal them as well as Internal Family Systems (IFS) to understand the competing and conflicting parts of ourselves. For the counselling nerds out there, I also draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy and others.

My Philosophy
I believe therapy is the meeting of two experts. My study and experience bring a wealth of knowledge of mental health, relationships, emotions and psychological interventions and you bring your knowledge of your experiences, identity, personality, and unique history. When we collaborate and share our expertise, incredible change and healing will happen.
